Noble Audio: FoKuS Triumph Earbuds with xMEMS Review

True wireless earbuds are all the rage, and Noble Audio is no stranger to it. With their previous Mystique and Prestige models, Noble Audio has been delivering top quality audio via Bluetooth and people have loved it. This time, they take on the challenge of incorporating xMEMs drivers, which are just now starting to break out into the market. Retailing at $369, these earbuds have a lot to offer and talk about.

What Comes In The Box

  • FoKus Triumph Earbuds
  • Charging Case
  • x6 Ear Tips (S / M / L)
  • Charging Cable
  • Small Carrying Pouch
  • 1/4" adapter

Aesthetics and Functionality

From the start, the Triumph is a great looking earbud. The charging case is unlike anything I have seen before, coming in a felt case that is soft to the touch. This is a cool design, but a bit impractical when it comes to the charging port. The USB-C port requires a specially made wire and connection point so that they plug in past the exterior of the case. Noble Audio luckily provides an adapter for normal USB-C chargers, but gives a separate cable as well.

The earbuds are orange and black in design, a nice color change from the classic blue we normally see from them. They styled them in the shape of an inner ear canal, ensuring comfort and easy use no matter the listener. Users can use any of the 6 ear tip sizes to fit the earbuds perfectly to their ear. I found the weight and style of them to really showcase their high quality already, which got me very excited to start listening.

Function wise, they were very easy to pair to my device. They popped up instantly when removed from the case, and from there it was easy listening. I connected them to the Noble Audio app as well to make sure I could get the most out of these earbuds. EQ tuning, noise cancelation, and pass through were all things I could control through the app.

There is a lot of talk about the FoKus Triumph because of the drivers used. You’ll see that yes, there is a classic dynamic driver used, one specifically made for the Triumph. There is also an xMEMS driver, which is a new technology that is starting to get used more and more in the headphone world. MEMS stands for Micro Electromechanical System, and it uses both moving and non-moving parts to generate sound. This mechanism is known to reproduce higher frequencies at a much faster rate, switching between ranges incredibly quickly with the highest quality. The driver ensures distinct and clear dynamics that can last longer than a typical driver.

Listening Review

Soundstage & ANC

The soundstage is quite wide on the Triumph. The dynamics do not disappoint, and that’s all thanks to the xMEMS driver. The sound signature spans very widely across the ranges, reaching very low lows and outstandingly high highs. The stereo imaging is very accurate as well, and I felt like I was watching some of my favorite bands perform by just listening to their stereo tracks. The active noise cancelation was highly effective as well, giving me an isolated and tuned in listening experience.

Low Frequencies

The low end is the highlight of these earbuds. The dynamic driver does an excellent job of getting the low end to sound punchy and driving in any track. Rock songs got a lot of added kick with the drums and basslines being a main feature. Pop songs with tuned 808s were a pleasure to listen to, and the list goes on. There was never a time it got too muddy or distracting from other elements in the tracks. I tuned it to be a little less driving to get better balance for the sound signature as a whole, but for a small earbud, I’m truly impressed with the bass response.

Mid-Range Frequencies

The mid range came with a lot of excellent clarity and detail. The layers in this section were noticeable and distinct, and nothing was too overwhelming. Vocals took center stage, so there was a good sense of depth in each track. Even after extended use, the mid range remained strong both in clarity and character. The sound reproduction was really excellent thanks to the xMEMS driver, and I was pleased with a lot of different genres I listened to.

High Frequencies

The high end definitely delivered in terms of an extended response and excellent brightness. For me, I think it veered on the edge of too bright, and I got some very harsh sounding frequencies when it reached near the very top. This range fell into the background, offering just enough balance from the low end but not sticking out to be a very noticeable detail. I would have liked to see some more power come into this end with the stock settings. Luckily, the app is a great tool and I used it to tune the earbuds to my liking. I was listening to some brass heavy instrumentals and found that the shrill sound could be startling at times. However, with the driving low end, it was a nice balance and didn’t deter me from listening further.

Summary

Noble Audio never fails to impress, it’s no surprise the Triumph falls into this pattern. With the latest tech at their fingertips, Noble has created a fantastic pair of earbuds that are great for casual listeners and audiophiles. People will appreciate the ability to customize their sound in the Noble Audio app, but will still be impressed by the sound being produced from the xMEMS driver. I highly recommend testing these out for yourself and getting to try this new tech while you can.
