Strauss & Wagner Tuscany Review

If you're looking for an upgrade cable that will give you good sound quality and improve your phone call clarity, look no further than Strauss & Wagner. The new Strauss & Wagner Tuscany cable is an excellent 3.5mm cable with a detachable boom microphone, making it a stellar upgrade for many types of headphones. Is the Tuscany the right upgrade cable for your headphones? In this review, we take a deep dive and see how the S&W Tuscany helps improve your productivity and listening experience.

LOOK & FEEL

The Strauss & Wagner Tuscany cable is a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable that has the attractive feature of a detachable boom microphone. For people who want to have the convenience of a dedicated microphone and a direct cable, the Tuscany offers a great solution. The cable itself is approximately 4 feet long, so you have plenty of slack to be sitting as close or as far from your source. The silver, braided design is visually stunning and elevates the look of any headphone. It was easy to plug the cable into your source with the 3.5mm connection, and you can use any standard adapter if needed.

The boom microphone being detachable is a great feature that not a lot of cables have. If you find that you just need a slightly longer 3.5mm cable for your headphones, the Tuscany's 4-foot length comes in handy and becomes a good contender for those listeners. Remote workers will appreciate the attachable microphone that is ready to be used at a moment's notice. The 2-pin connection on the mic is stable when connected to the cable, and the wire of the microphone is pliable so you can bend it to be pointed directly at your mouth. You won't have to worry about not being heard on Zoom conference calls or important phone calls via your computer.

Below, we have a list of some of the headphones the Strauss & Wagner Tuscany cable is compatible with. This list may not include all of the headphones, but these are some that we have tried at Audio46 and found they have more than positive results. Headphones from Sony, Beyerdynamic, Focal, and Audeze all have proven to be compatible with the Tuscany.

SOUND QUALITY

I used the Tuscany cable with a few different headphones, including the Sony WH-1000XX COLLEXION, Beyerdynamic DT 270 Pro, and the Focal Bathys. The Tuscany was easy to use with each of these headphones and kept the sound signature honest to what you know from each headphone. I found the Tuscany to increase clarity and brightness, thanks to the 4-core silver construction. The braided design makes the cable stand out visually, but it also ensures a quality build that makes this cable last. The braided design is a design upgrade and a sonic one, since it gives you better clarity and separation between track elements. It's a subtle push into higher-quality territory without switching the cable entirely. I liked the brightness the Tuscany brought to the table, especially in bassier headphones. The Sony WH-1000X series got a nice treble boost, as did the Beyerdynamic. The natural sound quality and punchiness of the signatures remained, so you don't have to fear the cable changing the sound entirely.

The microphone is the highlight of this cable, and at a $99 price point, you want to make sure you are getting a decent accessory. I tested out the Tuscany on multiple devices and called a few friends to make sure the microphone worked as advertised. I was very pleased that I could hear my friends very clearly, and more importantly, they could hear me without any issue. This hands-free feature makes it easy to work and talk at the same time, and the connection is reliable to ensure you don't miss a word. The sound of the phone calls wasn't too shrill or harsh in any headphones, so you could be relaxed during your phone calls and not get fatigued by sharp sibilance.

WHAT MAKES THE TUSCANY BETTER THAN OTHER CABLES?

The Tuscany is a unique option when it comes to upgrading cables with a microphone. While it doesn't have an in-line microphone, the boom mic is a much more reliable microphone for phone calls. Other cables are compatible with all the same headphones, but they have different features and built quality to put them in another bracket. Some of those options are:

  • S&W Flen: 3.5mm to L-shaped 3.5mm with in-line microphone
  • S&W Kiel: 3.5mm to USB-C with in-line microphone
  • S&W Micera: 3.5mm to 3.5mm with in-line microphone and detachable boom mic, includes Y-splitter adapter

These options are great for people who prioritize minimalism and ultra-convenience for their setups, less about the actual audio quality for their casual listening. The Tuscany sits as an upgrade in sound quality to ensure you are getting higher fidelity in sound, as well as compatibility across any device you may use. The other cables may be better for people with a stricter budget, but for those that don't mind splurging for better sound, the Tuscany provides that upgrade for a more premium cost.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Is the Strauss & Wagner Tuscany cable for you? If you're looking for something to improve your phone call quality while you work at home or in the office, the Tuscany is a premium solution that is well worth the cost. Other microphone cables may be lower in cost, but they don't come with the premium build and reliable sound you can see from the physical design alone. The sound quality is great not just for a reliable connection but also for elevated audio, so your listening sessions get an upgrade just as much as the quality of your phone calls. The Tuscany proves to be a quality upgrade for a host of headphones and types of listeners.

The Strauss & Wagner Tuscany is available today at Audio46.
