Apart from its flagship model, the Letshuoer Cadenza, I’ve had little experience with this relatively young brand. So, I was interested in hearing a Letshuoer IEM at a price point that competes with the likes of the Campfire Andromeda and Thieaudio Prestige. How does the visually appealing Conductor perform, and will it stand out as one of the more distinctive IEMs in the $1k range?
In the Box
Look and Feel
I’m a big fan of the shell aesthetic, which sports a variety of earthy colors that are layered almost like films of sand. The housing is made of a shiny resin material and has a translucent finish, allowing the internal components to be visible from the outside.
In terms of fit, I found the Conductor to be comfortable with a secure seal and effective sound isolation. The shells are lightweight, and I experienced no fatigue even throughout long listening sessions. So, no complaints in this department.
Design
The Conductor employs a hybrid driver design that includes Knowledge balanced armatures, a Sonion electrostatic unit and a 10mm proprietary dynamic driver. The IEMs use a 2-pin balanced cable with 2.5mm termination. In the box, you’ll also find a balanced 4.4mm adapter and an unbalanced 3.5mm adapter. With an impedance of about 8 Olms, I found the Conductor very easy to drive. For the purposes of this review, I used the 4.4mm adapter with the Astell&Kern AK HC2 DAC/dongle. But you’ll also have no problem driving it directly from your phone.
Sound Impressions
Soundstage
The soundstage feels intimate, while still presenting a solid sense of width and depth. That being said, I’ve experienced more height on an IEM at this price point. But while the soundscape may not feel as expansive as some of the competing high-end IEMs, instrument placement is accurate and well-defined; in part due to the fantastic separation, the layering is impeccably clean, and in this sense, you’ll certainly sense a dimensional quality to the space.
Low-End
The bass is tight, punchy, and well-controlled. And it manages to produce satisfying bass extension and impact, while maintaining good definition. The Conductor also delivers plenty of speed and accuracy, without any bloat or muddiness. Acoustic genres feel clean, while pop feels fast and lively. And while sub-bass frequencies are apparent, they avoid any overwhelming rumble or boom. So, overall, the low-end seems to tackle modern genres and acoustic bass instruments with equal skill and finesse.
Mids
The midrange presents a highly natural timbre that makes vocals and acoustic instruments sound exceptionally lifelike, without any artificial coloration or emphasis. The lower midrange is full and warm while the upper midrange is adequately dynamic and detailed, adding some liveliness and definition to an otherwise conservative balance. In fact, the midrange is probably where the Conductor most excels, providing a comprehensive, even-handed and crowd pleasing profile.
Highs
The Conductor offers sufficient treble extension without being fatiguing or sibilant. The highest peaks feel smooth and fluid while maintaining solid detail throughout. And while it may not be for those who prefer a brightness and sparkle in their mix, the highs are certainly forgiving and easy to enjoy.
Summary
The Letshuoer Conductor IEM offers a well-rounded and pleasurable sound signature, with a natural and cohesive presentation that makes it suitable for a wide range of music genres. That being said, it may not stand out having a memorably charismatic personality. But sometimes, you just need no bull IEM that produces a well-balanced and unsaturated sound, and remains true to the original mix. And in this respect, the Conductor undoubtedly delivers.
