Audio46's Opinion
The Moondrop Venus is a great balance of fun and refinement. It pulls off a bassy and bright balance without resorting to a V-shaped mids scoop. Its performance is impressive, and I see it as a welcome, unique addition to the sub $1,000 over-ear competition. Those with treble sensitivities might want to approach this one with caution.

PLANAR Full-Size Headphone
In a planar headphone, a magnetic field is generated parallel to the diaphragm through the symmetrical arrangement of grid-array magnets. Signals generate ampere force perpendicular to the printed circuit on the diaphragm, thus causing the diaphragm to vibrate.
The advantage of planar headphones is that the stress on the diaphragm is more uniform than that of dynamic driver headphones, and the split vibration of planar headphones is theoretically lower than that of dynamic headphones, without the necessity for special materials. The split vibration distortion of planar headphones is somewhere between that of dynamic headphones and electrostatic headphones, but unlike electrostatic headphones, which require a special amplifier to drive them, planar headphones can be driven using the same amplifiers as dynamic headphones.
The disadvantage of planar headphones is the higher cost of material and manufacture, which uses more magnets with larger sizes. The manufacturing process of the diaphragm and the assembly process of the driver require special equipment. Equipment of the required high standard is costly, and expensive high-rigidity frames are needed to fix each component. This results in the higher cost of planar headphones compared with dynamic driver headphones.
100mm Sub-Nanometer Diaphragm
Pure Silver Etched Circuit
Venus uses a diaphragm with a diameter of 100mm and a thickness of only 2 microns, and the printed circuit on the diaphragm is made of 1um pure silver.
The larger vibration delivers stronger dynamics, the thin diaphragm responds to finer details, and the pure silver printed circuit results in lower heat loss.
Unlike other products, the stresses on the Venus printed circuit are distributed evenly during the vibration of the diaphragm, and other wiring has been recessed into the fixed part of diaphragm, ensuring that the whole diaphragm vibrates more evenly under ampere force. Compared with ordinary planar headphones, it further reduces the distortion caused by split vibration, and delivers a performance closer to that of electrostatic headphones.
N52 Magnet Array Optimized by FEA
Venus uses an array of 18 N52 magnets with high remanence on one side. Through FEA finite element analysis optimization design, the magnetic field parallel to the diaphragm is evenly distributed, which further reduces the split vibration and vibration nonlinearity of the diaphragm.
Aluminum Alloy CNC Cavity
Patented Integrated Structure
The driver structure of Venus has to withstand very large tension loads because of the large number of N52 magnets used to form arrays. In order to avoid deformation, the entire driver structure requires use of costly aluminum alloy CNC.
Venus adopts an unprecedented driver-cavity integrated structure that accommodates a larger diaphragm in a limited volume, and overall weight is lowered as much as possible while ensuring the rigidity of the structure that supports the magnetic circuit grid of 36 large neodymium magnets.
This special modular structure not only fits the highest-quality components into a limited volume, but also makes it easier to maintain the unit and provide the possibility of replacing and upgrading the diaphragm.
Combined High Frequency Waveguide Phase Equalization Technology
Venus adopts a unique combined high-frequency waveguide structure, which minimizes the phase interference of the grid magnets in the transmission of high-frequency sound waves, while avoiding the negative impact of the volume and efficiency of the magnetic circuit.
Secondary Diaphragm Stress Balance Technology
After the diaphragm has been molded, the stress on it is released and then equalized a second time. As a result of this additional process, the nonlinear distortion of the diaphragm under loud pressure is reduced by at least 95%.
Excellent Performance Index
The frequency response curve of Venus is highly consistent with HRTF (Head Related Transfer Function), and the nonlinear distortion is less than 0.05%. The distortion is ultra-low even under loud pressure.
Venus is the master of acoustic technology of MOONDROP, which highly pursues the uniform and linear structural design and special technology in all aspect.
Self-Adjusting Leather Headband
Venus adopts an self-adjusting leather headband, thus ensuring the most comfortable wearing experience possible.
Interchangeable Cable Design
Venus uses an interchangeable cable design with 3.5mm headphone connectors for the right/left channels. Users can easily replace the cable to meet different requirements.
