Audio-Technica ATH-M30x

By Steve J.

I bought the Audio-technica ATH-M30x headphones about a year ago when I began recording and mixing. I went looking for a good cheap pair of studio headphones, and when I found them I knew they were the perfect match for me.

For a $50 headphone I feel like I got the best bang for my buck. The Audio-technica ATH-M30x have a fairly even sound signature and cover frequencies ranging from 15 Hz -22,000 Hz which is pretty standard. But, the music that I tend to record the most of is acoustic and country, so I didn’t need anything with an exceptional bass response or a lot of high end. Their even response allows me to pick apart tracks and hear what I actually recorded.

The design of The ATH-M30x headphones is fairly average they come in a sleek black finish with the company’s logo embossed on the side of the headphones. They come with soft leather, or leather substitute, Earpads that help isolate the sound. The ear coverings swivel too, which is a good feature to have in a pair of headphones.

I have to say that the best feature of these headphones is their durability. I tend to be very rough on my stuff. That hasn’t changed when it comes to these headphones.  As a self confessed klutz I’ve dropped them several times, sat on them, closed the cable in car doors, and they were even once thrown from a moving car by a friend. They survived it all. While I don’t recommend doing Any of that to your headphones, I take great pride in the fact that like queen bey my headphones are survivors that won’t give up.
