SOUNDSTAGE & IMAGING

The soundstage on the WH-1000XM6 is expansive, with excellent width, depth, and instrument placement. The addition of spatial audio processing gives tracks a 3D quality, enhancing immersion in everything from jazz ensembles to cinematic scores. Compared to the XM5, the XM6 offers a more neutral and balanced tuning with tighter bass, improved midrange clarity, and airier highs. You are easily immersed in your music with the expansive sound and tight reproduction. I can definitely see this headphone being used in a monitoring setting when you need to analyze something quick on the go, or give a test listen to a track. 

As a whole, the signature of the WH-1000XM6 is punchy and bass-heavy. For people that really appreciate the slam of the bass but with refreshing treble detail, you will definitely find the XM6 to be up your alley. You will find that the imaging placement makes it seem like you are in the center of your tracks, and the sound can be punchy but realizing at the same time. You can listen to the XM6 for hours without fatigue, both at high volumes and low without losing out on detail. 

LOW FREQUENCIES

The bass is punchy and controlled. While the XM6 doesn’t exaggerate sub-bass as aggressively as its predecessor, it still delivers satisfying low-end weight—especially in electronic and hip-hop genres. Listeners can fine-tune this region using the app EQ to fit personal preferences. If you're a fan of strong bass, the XM6 will definitely be for you. EDM and classic rock excel with the punchiness and loudness of the signature. The bass is very present and definitely comes to the front, but in slower and more mellow genres, it does take a backseat to allow other frequencies to take the reins. You'll find the bass is an excellent foundation for everything else that builds up from it. 

MIDRANGE FREQUENCIES

Vocals and instruments sound forward and rich. The XM6 midrange retains a natural tone while offering strong layering and separation, especially in complex mixes. This is the area most impacted by the sound modes; background and cinema modes reshape the mids to suit their environments, yet the XM6 consistently delivers clarity. I liked how the midrange was able to sound fairly natural but still entertaining. You could easily distinguish the textures and timbres of instruments, and they were placed accurately around you in the wide stereo field. Even in busier tracks, the depth of the XM6 comes out and allows you to become fully immersed in your music. 

HIGH FREQUENCIES

Treble performance is crisp, open, and detailed. The highs on the XM6 sparkle without becoming harsh, and the headphones do an excellent job maintaining vertical soundstage clarity. Notes decay naturally without early roll-off, even at higher volumes. The treble range shows off all the space this headphone can provide, especially, in the different sound modes. Having an open treble response is great for making the entire signature less fatiguing and more realistic. The brightness from the treble balances the bass very well, making sure the powerful bass doesn't drown out all the other detail you get from the midrange and treble.
