Ever wonder if you could use foam eartips with your favorite true wireless earphones? The company Strauss & Wagner makes this possible with the SonicSil foam eartips. These eartips join the lineup with the SilPhase, SoundNest, EchoSeal, and ComforTone, but this time catering to a more specific audience. How do these eartips stack against some other options by Strauss & Wagner? Is this the upgrade your Bluetooth earphones needed?
LOOK & FEEL
The SonicSil eartips are similar to the EchoSeal foam eartips. The slow-rebound memory foam is soft and comfortable in the ear, and it molds to your ear shape with ease. You get a perfectly snug fit that isn't as invasive as some other eartips with longer dimensions. Like other foam eartips, the SonicSil isn't as easy to clean as a silicone eartip. Still, the pressurized seal is a nice bonus that you may not get from other materials.
As someone who doesn't regularly use foam eartips, I found I was quite impressed with the SonicSil. The eartips were great for long listening sessions because of how snugly and comfortably they fit in the ear. Because the tip was slightly smaller, it was a much less invasive fit and could be worn for longer. Like the EchoSeal, it's hard to clean the SonicSil with alcohol wipes. You'll have to use some non-alcoholic pads to wipe them down, though you risk deterioration if you try to clean them too frequently. A good way to make foam eartips last is by not only keeping the eartip clean, but also your IEM and ears.
Like the other variations, Strauss & Wagner give you the exact measurements of the internal and external diameters of each eartip size in the SonicSil multipack. All the internal nozzles are 4.0mm in diameter, which is a slightly smaller size than some standard IEMs. This is more common in the true wireless IEMs since those devices are generally smaller. You'll also find a uniform height amongst all sizes, making the SonicSil a perfect fit in any charging case. The other dimensions of the SonicSil are as follows:
- Small: 9.7mm (D) 7mm (H)
- Medium: 10.2mm (D) 7mm (H)
- Large: 11mm (D) 7mm (H)
COMPATIBLE WITH...
Although they are advertised for their true wireless compatibility, the SonicSil eartips can also be used with wired earphones. Brands like Sennheiser and 64 Audio can benefit from this slightly smaller eartip, or just people looking for something shorter and less invasive. The true wireless compatibility is the main star of the show, with the size being perfectly shaped to fit in any charging case.
When testing out the SonicSil with your earphones, you need to check for two things: one, if they fit snugly on the earphones, and two, if the earphones can charge in their case. If the case cannot be closed, you shouldn't use the SonicSil. You'll be tricked into thinking your earphones are charging when in reality, they are sitting and just draining battery.
Below is a list of earphones, both wired and wireless, that are compatible with the SonicSil eartips. If you don't see your IEM on the list, feel free to come in and try them on or give us a call to see if they are compatible.

SOUND QUALITY
What does the SonicSil do for your earphones? At first listen, the SonicSil doesn't really change the sound of your earphones. You can put these on earphones like the Sony WF-1000XM6 or the Sennheiser IE 600 and still get the sound you are expecting. The foam eartip does wonders for isolation, so you'll definitely be able to focus more on your listening than before. The sound signature of your earphones likely will not change much, but you might find subtle differences from the stock eartips that make the listening experience all the more enjoyable.
I listened to quite a few true wireless and wired earphones with the SonicSil eartips. I liked how they fit on the Beyerdynamic AMIRON 300, the Final Audio A10000, and the Sennheiser TWS MOMENTUM 4. The sound was clean and honest in all the earphones, and there was a noticeable bass boost from the more effective seal of the foam eartip. This bass enhancement didn't take over the entire signature; in fact, it just gave a subtle bass push to give the signature a bit of warmth and body. Signatures were still bright and crisp when they needed to be, bringing out their colorful clarity and balance to make everything sound familiar.

SONICSIL VS OTHER EARTIPS
Who does the SonicSil compete against? Companies like Spinfit and Azla do make other true wireless eartips, and they also make some foam ones. The SonicSil rests in the middle of this Venn diagram, where it is one of the only true wireless eartips that come in foam material. This makes the SonicSil a rare and unique find: it is well worth adding to your collection of eartips. Models like the Xelastic II from Azla are a great option if you want silicone. Or, the Azla Foamax may be compatible with Bluetooth earphones if the case is large enough / the earphone is small enough. The SonicSil gives you extra reassurance that you will have comfortable and compatible listening with your earbuds.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The Strauss & Wagner SonicSil foam eartips are a great true wireless accessory. If you are someone who prefers a foam eartip over silicone and have been waiting to find the right fit for your travel IEMs, this may be the easiest $15 you ever spend. You can even find use for them with wired IEMs, though their true wireless compatibility makes these unique and one-of-a-kind.
