Some audiophiles will spend up to $1K on a wireless headphone. However, most of us just need the convenience of a wireless setup for our commute or the office. The good news is that you can buy a high-quality pair of wireless headphones for under 500 bucks and still be entirely satisfied. We’ve chatted with our sales associates and reviewers to find out what their favorite Bluetooth cans are in terms of sound, design, and functionality. The following 5 models are Audio46's choices for the top wireless headphones under $500. Check it out here.
BOWERS & WILKINS PX7 S3
PRICE: $479.00
Bowers & Wilkins is the luxury brand when it comes to anything audio. If you’re looking to get the BMW of wireless headphones, consider looking into these. The Px7 S3 is a premium option just under the $500 price point, released as the upgrade from the Px7 S2e. Just like the label, the sound on the Px7 S3 is refined and classy. You can expect a punchy, detailed sound that is strong in the bass, as well as higher frequencies that are crisp and precise to the analytical ear. The sound signature is smooth, controlled, and detailed. As an audiophile who believes cost doesn't always equal quality, I found myself very impressed with the Px7 S3 performance. With solid ANC, 30 hours of battery life, and a look and feel that whispers, “I’ve made it,” these cans might be one of my guilty pleasures in this price range.
SONY WH-1000XM6
PRICE: $459.99
The WH-1000XM6 is probably the best-selling wireless headphone on the market. And with good reason. It's a step up from the previous WH-1000XM5, upgrading its features to really deliver a stellar audio performance and ideal user experience. It’s got a balance that satisfies the masses, regardless of whether you’re into pop hits or oldie records. The bass is solid and energetic, and overall, it produces a really lush and full-bodied sound. The WH-1000XM6 also presents a really fun soundstage with decent dimension and color. Of course, the effectiveness of the ANC is a major element that makes these cans such a big seller. But what really sets the WH-1000XM6 apart from the competition is the ample functionality it offers through Sony’s accompanying app. It gives you complete control over your equalizer settings and offers plenty of options for managing the ANC. You can stay locked into your music and have the headphones automatically adjust for when you need to be alert to your surroundings. Hands-free.
SENNHEISER MOMENTUM 4
PRICE: $299.95
Soundstage, soundstage, and more soundstage! If you like it big, the MOMENTUM 4 are the wireless headphones to buy. You get some fantastically wide imaging on these cans, which is perfect for any genre from classical to R&B. Just play Lizzo’s “Juice,” and you’ll be convinced. In addition, you’ll get all the other sound qualities one expects from this famous German brand. A tastefully lush profile, superior articulation, and a natural timbre are all what define the MOMENTUM 4 for me. These headphones offer 60 hours of battery life, which doubles the competition's time and enables you to listen for longer without interruption. While Sennheiser does have the HDB 630 right at the $500 price point, the MOMENTUM 4 offers an exceptional value for people who want to experience high-quality listening for a good price. If you value more precision when tuning the sound signature and like hyper-specific customization, the HDB 630 may be worth looking into.
FINAL AUDIO UX5000
PRICE: $274.99
Given the lower price of the UX5000, you wouldn't assume this headphone delivers the quality sound it does. However, the profile is such a crowd pleaser that we had to mention it. Final Audio is famous for producing stellar audiophile sound, both in in-ear and over-ear. Furthermore, they always offer solid options for those on a tight budget. The UX5000 is a newer addition to this lineup, and it shows off the tight and polished signature that makes the brand so damn good. Punchy and dynamic, there’s an undeniable liveliness to these cans that makes genres like funk and pop incredibly fun. Of course, for this price, you won’t get the super high level of ANC that you would on a Sony WH-1000XM6. However, you get effective features that make the price well worth it. The earcups are smaller than most other over-ear headphones, which makes this an ideal choice for people who want subtlety or those with smaller heads. If you’re prioritizing sound quality over ANC, then the UX5000 is a fantastic buy.
BEYERDYNAMIC AVENTHO 100
PRICE: $229.99
Beyerdynamic is a brand that also makes many studio headphones, mainly in the wired format. They've released a line of Bluetooth earphones and headphones, and of the lot, I find myself particularly drawn to the AVENTHO 100. It's getting a worthy place on our top 5 list because of one defining feature: compactness. The AVENTHO 100 is an on-ear headphone, different from the other over-ears, and delivers exceptional sound quality for just over $200. This wireless headphone is equipped with ANC and customizable EQ features, as well as foldable sides to make transporting the headphones super simple. For people who like punchy bass, this is the headphone for you. It delivers a low end that is punchy but still detailed, leveling out with the high end to create a dynamic and fun signature. I was really jamming out to some classic rock on these wireless cans, enjoying the crispness from the highs, but the body you get from the low end. The AVENTHO 100 is a great choice for people looking for something small and subtle that still delivers high-quality sound.
WHICH WIRELESS WOULD YOU CHOOSE?
Getting wireless headphones under $500 seems like it would be slim pickings: false! There are tons of great options out there for you to choose from based on your preferences. Portability and comfort are key standouts from the Sony WH-1000XM6, though the compactness of the Beyerdynamic AVENTHO 100 and the Final UX5000 are definitely worth mentioning. Sennheiser's MOMENTUM 4 offers double the battery life of the competition, while the Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 offers a premium quality build and style that you might only see in wireless headphones priced over $500. Which one stands out to you?
If you weren't particularly drawn to anything on this list, don't worry! We only highlighted our top 5 picks in this article, but there are plenty more headphones to try out. We offer demos of all these wireless headphones and more at our storefront in Manhattan.
