The TH-616 presents a flawlessly clean profile and a memorable tuning that is distinct from so many other headphones in this echelon. If you are particularly sensitive to lower treble frequencies, the mids might start to get a little tiring. But if you appreciate a vibrant and luminous midrange, there are few other headphones that deliver it this well. Add to that an uber-detailed, fast bass and easy highs, and you have a refreshing sound signature that becomes more compelling the longer you listen.

These headphones are assembled one by one in limited quantities at a Japanese factory, marking a special commemoration of Fostex's 50th anniversary.
Open-back housing evokes the imagery of sunlight filtering through the trees
The design draws inspiration from the captivating natural phenomenon where sunlight produces a radiant glow as it filters through the spaces amidst trees. This precision-machined design not only upholds structural rigidity but also effectively eliminates the generation of modal vibrations. Each opening is meticulously sized to prevent resonance at particular frequencies.
BIODYNA diaphragm made of ultra-fine bio-cellulose fiber material
Leveraging years of accumulated expertise, bio-cellulose fibers are skillfully blended with other materials under optimal conditions. This results in achieving a low specific gravity, high Young's modulus, and high internal loss. These properties enable the faithful reproduction of delicate, high-resolution, and beautiful mid-high frequencies. The inclusion of a free edge enables the accurate reproduction of low mid-range frequencies with substantial amplitude.

Fostex TH-616
I found that the Fostex TH-616 sounds very similar to the Denon TH-D9200. Fit, weight and comfort are also close. A fun and comfortable listen.
Beauty, Comfort and Sound!
I don't know how many hours I've used these (not as many as I'd like), but these cans are awesome! They sound fantastic with everything I've listened to (metal and classical, but I'm sure they'd sound great with all genres). To me the sound signature is well balanced. I've watched TV and played video games, too (using an optical cable going from my TV to the DAC). They are very comfortable. I've fallen asleep with them on several times. I usually wake up with my head a little sweaty, but not hurting like some headphones will do after wearing them for more than an hour or two. I'm using these with an iFi Zen One Signature DAC and a Bottlehead Single Ended Experimenter's Kit 3.0 (with upgraded power cable and C4S upgrade). I have a pair of Meze 109 Pro Primal and ZMF VC, and the Fostex TH-616 are just as good (and they're the cheapest of the three).
