A celebration of music, art, and over 50 years of American Craftsmanship.
Grado Labs is excited to introduce a new limited edition, The White Headphone. Inspired by one of our family’s favorite record albums. The White Headphone by Grado commemorates the power an album, or even just a single song, may have on a person’s life.
This limited pair is the first Grado headphone to have an all white platter outer enclosure. The White Headphone features a more compact ventilation system, while increasing the mass on the face of the all maple enclosure. Powering the headphone is a transducer specifically configured for this new housing, all while keeping the Grado signature sound. Rounding out the design is a large black leather headband with white stitching, all packaged in our new box.
"I'm thrilled to have been able to finally bring this headphone to reality. The inspiration goes back to my youth and my love of music, especially rock & roll in the 1960s” recalls John Grado. “Though 50 years have passed, it never gets old. I enjoyed it then and it has inspired me now."
Music has been the reason for Grado Labs’ foundation in 1953, but has been a big part of our family for even longer. Throughout the years Grado has built headphones and phono cartridges to let others listen to music in the most transparent and communicative way, and once in awhile a specific experience with sound inspires us to create something special that represents that.

Grado - The White Headphone
The White edition Grado are a mixed bag. Unlike most Grado I’ve had experience with, kick drums and bass guitars are not very hard hitting. In fact, the mid-bass is there and super clear, but takes a back seat to the overall sound signature. It’s treble-leaning and slightly recessed in the mids. On older rock and acoustic recordings it sounds at home. With modern rock records it’s a bit strident and lacking authority. Classical and jazz are nice and clear at low volumes, but not particularly exceptional. The GS1000 Grado are much better for these genres. Forget electronic or rap — but then, that’s not what these are for. This set seems made for a specific purpose, and for that they’re excellent. If you’re into 50s-mid-70s rock, these may be for you. For all else they can work, but will need an EQ to get you where you’d want to be. Speaking of EQ, the White Grado respond very well with EQ. I ran these out of a Schiit Asgard 3 with multi-bit Dac, out of my MBP directly, and out of a Focusrite Scarlet 2. Amp didn’t really make a significant difference. For EQ, I used Boom 2 app. Audio46 service was exceptional and shipping fast. Thanks a lot.
