The reference-class Sennheiser HD 800s is a modern classic, rendering sound that is natural and true to the least detail - offering the most accurate sound possible. While it's no easy task to improve on an already-perfect formula, Sennheiser's engineers took the success of the original HD 800 even further, enhancing sound reproduction to its final limit in the open, circumaural HD 800s. Striking industrial design renders form and function in eye-arresting symbiosis, seamlessly layering metal and plastic to offer vibration-attenuating headband and earcups. Handmade microfiber earcups offer long-lasting comfort sure to hold up against even the longest, most-demanding listening sessions. Exactingly crafted to perfection, the HD 800s is precision-built in Germany from only the finest materials and components. A steel-encased transducer is complimented by a headband and headphone mounting that utilizes the most advanced materials developed in the aerospace industry for high strength with minimal weight.

What the Press is Saying
"The Sennheiser HD 800 S are excellent sounding headphones for critical listening. They're comfortable and have a sturdy, durable build quality but like most open back critical listening models, they're not very versatile. They're not designed for outdoors or to use casually, but plugged into an amp, they deliver an exceptional listening experience."
"The Sennheiser HD 800 S is a sterling, wonderful pair of headphones that strikes a near-perfect balance between accuracy and enjoyment."
"If sensational sound quality is your priority, these high-end headphones are worth an audition"
Sennheiser HD 800S Dynamic Open-Back Stereo Headphones (2G)
I have had them for about 6 months now and I already had a Neve RNHP headphone amplifier and a Topping DX7 pro DAC to plug them into. I can't say enough good things about the sound quality and comfort. It is really amazing to be able to hear all of the frequency ranges so perfectly clear. Some people complain that they don't have enough bass, but I don't know what they are talking about because I can hear everything from the lowest bass notes to the highest treble frequencies. I hope that you get a chance to hear this setup. For about $2600 or less (for used) it is the best thing I have ever spent money on for musical electronics. It is like listening to music with an electron microscope and being able to examine every detail. Definitely be careful with the silver detail which mars easily when detaching and attaching the cables. Enjoy yourself, you only live once and you are definitely worth it.
I use these as an all purpose headphone for work + gaming. I can wear these all day without any discomfort and they sound excellent/neutral to me. This includes a balanced cable and for many reasons I always trust Sennheiser products to last me a long time compared to others.
Great soundstage and clarity
These headphones are pretty amazing, I had to buy them just so I could know how they sound and I'm not disappointed. Pros: Comfy for hours on end, clarity, realism, holographic sound, wide sound stage, clean extended treble, comes with balanced cable. Cons: The silver mesh damages easily if not careful when removing cable, some lack of bass quantity and extension compared to my other HPs. I use these primarily while working at my desk with my PC, Drop LCX+SDAC and Tidal Masters. I have also used it with a Squeezebox Touch, Schiit Bifrost, Asgard 2 and Tidal. It sounds great with both setups.
The 600 HD is an awesome headphone, I've had mine for over 20 years. The 800S brings some small changes. Better detail and certainly a slightly different soundstage. They're both superb products, I'm still deciding between the two, but I'm keeping the 800s
