When you get your first pair of in-ear monitors, you'll notice that most of the time, the cable separates from the monitor itself. This adaptability allows you to upgrade the cable and change the termination or cable quality to fit your comfort and setup compatibility. The big question: Does it change your sound quality?
Strauss & Wagner has a ton of options for cable upgrades, and one of those upgrades is an MMCX cable called the Arosa. This cable is perfect for any person looking for a nicer quality cable at a very attractive price. You have the option to terminate to 3.5mm or 4.4mm, for only a $10 price difference. What makes this cable so great? How does it change the sound of your IEMs? All these answers and more will be laid out in this review.
LOOK & FEEL
Starting with the look, you'll immediately notice this cable for its silver color aesthetic. Strauss & Wagner cables have a lot of similarities in their aesthetics across the board, so you'll likely find similarities in the Arosa if you have another Strauss & Wagner cable. The Arosa is thin and lightweight, so it doesn't weigh you down or add extra bulk to your IEMs during use. At the MMCX connection point, you'll see the wire is stiffer to curve inwards like the shape of your ear. You can put on your IEMs with increased ease and comfort, knowing the wire won't fall off or curve awkwardly to unhook from your ear.
In terms of specifications, the Arosa is fairly simple and doesn't have a lot of specs to analyze. The Arosa cable is 120cm in length (approximately 3.9 feet) and made from OFC silver. The connectors are MMCX, though you have the option to use a 3.5mm connection or a 4.4mm connection. These two terminations are separate cables, costing $49.95 and $59.95, respectively. You can choose whichever termination will integrate better into your setup and get the same sound quality.
COMPATIBLE WITH...
The Arosa is a standard MMCX connection, so it will be compatible with any standard MMCX IEM. This includes brands such as Campfire Audio, Beyerdynamic, and others. Important to note: the Arosa is not compatible with the Sennheiser IE series. Their connections are slightly different and require a proprietary connection to make sure the cable fits securely. Make sure when you are buying an upgrade cable, you see the IE series (or just your IEMs) on the list of compatible devices. The Arosa fits on the following models:
- Beyerdynamic: DT 70 IE, DT 71 IE, DT 72 IE, DT 73 IE
- Campfire Audio: Chromatic Series (Cascara, Ponderosa, Supermoon, Bonneville), Andromeda, Axion, Alien Brain, Grand Luna, Astrolith, Moon Rover, Trifecta, Clara
- Final Audio: E4000, E5000, A10000
- TinHiFi: P1 Plus
**Note: This is a list of IEMs I was able to test with the Arosa at Audio46. Other MMCX IEMs that aren't listed may be compatible, and you can stop in to our storefront to test and make sure.
AROSA SOUND QUALITY
During my sound testing, I used a few different compatible IEMs I was familiar with to see how or if the Arosa changed the sound quality. The Arosa is compatible with a lot of different monitors, but to get an overall picture of it's influence, I used the following IEMs:
- Beyerdynamic DT 70 IE
- Campfire Audio Alien Brain
- Final Audio E5000
All of these IEMs had a balanced sound signature with some fun coloration in the bass to make them entertaining and pleasurable to listen to. I liked that the Arosa didn't take away from the sound quality of any of these IEMs. The sound was smooth and easy to listen to, keeping the detail and clarity you'd expect out of all these different models. The Alien Brain still had its signature punchy bass, and the highs had some extra sparkle thanks to the silver cable. Beyerdynamic's DT 70 IE was still balanced from lows to highs, and the analytical detail you'd expect is still clear and distinct. Though the wear style was a bit odd, the Final Audio E5000 was another good match with the Arosa cable for the treble enhancement and detail.
Overall, the Arosa was perfect for keeping IEMs honest to what you know, but also adding a bit of treble sparkle. It keeps the IEMs entertaining and interesting, and it lightens up what may be a very dark IEM. I could see this cable being good for the Beyerdynamic DT 71 IE, a model that has more bass, and the Campfire Grand Luna, which has a darker tuning than most.

FINAL THOUGHTS
If you're looking for a high-quality upgrade cable, Strauss & Wagner definitely has you covered. The Arosa is a great option for MMCX IEM users that need something different than the stock cable. The braided OFC silver construction and lightweight feel is perfect for people who want something subtle still delivers the sound they love. The Arosa doesn't change the sound quality of your IEM; it gives you the same detail and coloration you'd expect out of your IEMs, this time with crisp detail and smooth frequency response. Starting at $50, this is a great way to upgrade your listening experience.
If you didn't see your IEMs on the list of those compatible with the Arosa, you can stop into Audio46 to test the cable yourself. Bring your IEMs and you can easily test to make sure it's a proper fit.
